Happy Halloween

We have lots of items we've just acquired for the shop, so we will have another update scheduled for Monday morning (November 5th). We're taking photos of everything this week and also a new image will be up for the homepage. I love setting them up, it feels like we're designing our shop window.

Here's a sneak peek of some goods that will be in the shop on Monday. Also, look out early next week for Three Potato Four's newsletter.

Have a happy halloween night!

New Kicks

Today I had lunch with some old friends and Stu and Holly spent the afternoon together. Since we started Three Potato Four, Holly has spent so much more time with him. It's so great and makes me feel like this was the best thing we could have done. She has both of us home with her and gets to go with us to far away places when we shop for the store and even helps us out by puttin packing peanuts in all the packages we send out.

When I got home she was sporting these super cute red sneakers. Stu said she wanted the pink ones at first, but he convinced her red was better. She loves them.

Also, items are being added to the shop tonight. Have a look around.

Lovely Objects

We love seeing how items from our shop look in their new homes. One of our first customers was sfgirlbybay, Victoria purchased this pear and deer from us and they now live in this cozy light filled corner of her home.

If you have any photos you'd like to share of items you've purchased from Three Potato Four and where they now reside we'd love to see them! You can email them to me at janet@threepotatofourshop.com

Tomorrow we will be sending out our newsletter to those on our mailing list. It will give you a glimpse at what will be available in the shop for the shop update this Thursday. Lots of lovely things.

Avocado Letterpress

A few years ago I took a letterpress class at the Center for the Book Arts in New York. The class was a gift from Stu and I made a little print using wood type and lead type that listed steps on how to sprout an avocado. I think buried in my drawers of paper I still have a few prints left. This photo was taken right after I printed the "avocado" in wood type. I came home and spread the prints out on our floor to show my freshly printed wares to Stu. Afterwards I printed on them with lead type the directions on how to sprout an avocado. (Setting lead type is so hard!) And needless to say, I gained a much larger appreciation for this old-fashion printing method. Letterpress is a beautiful printing method and there is much work and care that goes into each and every one-of-a-kind print.

So with my love of letterpress, I was really excited to place an order to carry these lovely cards in our shop:
They come in a set of 12 and each card in the set is a different design. These letterpress cards are from Serrote in Portugal who also create these letterpress notebooks. Should be in the shop in time for holiday gifts.

Pumpkin Carving 101

We carved our pumpkins this weekend. The pumpkins are a lot stringy inside then we remember. I saved the seeds and am planning to toast them up. mmm.

Stocking up on more inventory and hope to add lots more treasures for you this Thursday. Look out!

Night Stories + Bird Stories

My first post.
Matthew Schenning is a night person and his photographs are as sweet as his dance moves, which include but are not limited to: shopping cart, robot in disguise and row the boat (aka "lazy river"). We've known Matt for many years and are proud to feature his work in our shop. Available now are 8 x 10 prints from his "Night Stories" series as well as select works from "Coney Island". If you're in NYC, check out his new work on display at De La Espada - opening very soon.

On another note, Janet has selected these bird and birdnest hand-glazed ceramic plates to add to our Tableware offerings. Check it out! The Bird Vase pictured is coming soon.
And last, but not least. Despite numerous requests, we will not be posting the picture of me in a bee costume on the blog nor will we be sending it via email to anyone. ever.

Addicted to Bubble Wrap

A favorite past time of holly is popping bubble wrap. It's plentiful in this house and she loves doing it. I hear her now in her room popping them as she plays in the tent we set up for her in there...

We've been busy packing away orders. Thanks to the Daily Candy mention. It is very exciting for us. This means lots more shopping trips and adventures for us to stock up on more vintage finds, which is our favorite part. We are going to attain more of these children's records as well.

Tomorrow we meet friends at a pumpkin patch. They have a cornstalk maze! I'm excited for the hot apple cider and the hayride. They have a daughter holly's age too, so it will be a good afternoon break for us and holly. Then back to packing up orders.

My favorites are these vintage children's records with graphics that we fell in love with. Stu loves the Nuclear Science Diagrams and this Botanical Print.

October Days

This weekend we met this sweet donkey and baby bull when we picked up a pumpkin at a local farm market. Poked around some antique shops. Scored some great things for the shop. Slipped on our cozy sweatshirts and holly her warm baby tights. Loving this cold fall weather!

We have updated the image on our homepage and be sure to browse the shop for new items just added today.

Getting Ready for Halloween

This year will be Holly's first year of trick-or-treating. Stu and I are getting ready and are going to go out today and buy some stuff to decorate our house. Living in an apartment for the past seven years we have missed out on handing out candy. Now that we are in a house with a long driveway and a neighborhood filled with kids, we're loading up on the candy.

I got Holly a ladybug costume last year at a thrift store for five dollars and now she fits into it just in time for halloween. She tried it on the other day and looks cute. I tried to convince Stu to buy a bumblebee costume to match when we were in Target the other day. He refused but he did try it on. I took a picture of him in it at the store but he wouldn't let me post it up here. It was hilarious!

Red+Orange+Yellow

We found this old "For Sale" sign this weekend. It's pretty beat up but we're going to keep it in hopes of having a storefront one day. I used it in this little vignette of some items from the shop. This photo was set up to be the new image for the homepage but we decided on another shot instead. Some of these items have already sold but thought I would share this photo with you here.

Popovers

I heart Popovers. Before we had Holly, we took a trip to Maine with friends to Bar Harbor. We rented a little cabin in the woods near Echo Lake and enjoyed yummy popovers & soup at Jordan Pond House. As we were drinking our coffee this morning we were wishing we had some. So yum!

Shop News

Tonight we're adding new/old inventory to the shop. We took a new homepage image which will be up sometime next week. Here's a sneek peak of Stu setting up the products for the new homepage image. I'll also be sending out our first newsletter, so look out for it.

And lastly you can now purchase gift cards at Three Potato Four as well. Yay!

Circus is in Town

One of the best things about starting our shop is being able to spend so much time together as a family. Today Stu, Holly and I went to the Circus for a matinee show. The Big Apple Circus is in town and we had a lot of fun. This show is family-friendly, focusing more on performances featuring people than on animal antics. It is a smaller circus with amazing balancing acts, a hula-hooper, incredible gymnasts and a beautiful living-statue balancing act. A good day.

Afterward Holly and I enjoyed a nap together, (so needed by me & her). We woke up to this note from Stu. This giraffe is his standard doodle. :)

I'm off to take more photos of some new inventory we just got in and a slew of vintage stuff waiting on the shelves.

Elephant Museum

Some scenes from our weekend. We took a beautiful and long drive up to Pennsylvania on Saturday. Discovered this a place called Mister Ed's Elephant Museum. It was closed by the time we found it, but Mister Ed's Elephant Museum looks crazy fun! According to his website, his collection grew so extensive his wife made him open a museum. It says Mister Ed's Elephant Museum is one of the largest and most unique collections of elephants in the world.
