We're Stuffed!

Well, we just made it back from the family Thanksgiving and we're stuffed..and so is the shop! We were happy to find lots of packages had arrived while we were away and we'll be updating inventory in the shop over the next few days. First up...all of the Shinzi Katoh favorites are now back-in including the Bluebird & Trees Carafe, Piyo Measuring Set, Toaster Plate and the Plush Rabbit and Pig.

We were also happy to find the Whale Chalkboard and our 32 ounce milk-bottle carafe listed as one of Chow.com's top Gifts under $50.

And last, but certainly not least, we've been covertly working with illustrator/designer/typographer Jim Datz on an amazing screenprint - and it's finally here! Look for a newsletter and blog update within the next few days with its official announcement and when they will be for sale in the shop.

But before I go, I have to relay the best story from Thanksgiving. When packing up the car for the long ride home, I ran out of room in the back and was forced to put a full pumpkin pie on the backseat in between the two car seats (baby Oats and Holly) to ensure its safe arrival. The first half of the car ride home was great...which means that Otis was sleeping, but at the mid-way mark he started wailing like gangbusters. We've never done this before, but we had to pull over on the shoulder and Janet got in the back between the two car seats to try and get baby Oats to calm down...and of course, he did. So fast forward to three hours later in our home kitchen with Janet asking me where I put the pumpkin pie. "In the back between the car seats", I said, not really thinking anything of it. Janet quickly gave me a blank stare: "What?! That's where I was sitting!". So we ran to get the pie and yes, it was more than a bit squashed. But sitting here writing this post I really can't figure out if it's funnier simply that Janet sat on the pie or that she sat on the pie for a full three and didn't even notice. Hmm...

Brown paper packages tied up with string.

Brrr. It's cold here.
The holidays are almost upon us. For us at Three Potato Four, it means more packages being wrapped up and sent out. We just wanted to mention that we use biodegradable packing peanuts for our packages. They are made from cornstarch. You can literally fill your sink with them, turn the water on and watch them melt away. Or toss them in your compost pile and if you dare you can even eat them!

We try our hardest to recycle as much packing material as we can and love using the cornstarch packing peanuts - a better alternative to the nasty static styrofoam ones.

Big Update

Thursday update is up! We added more than fifty items today. Get some early and unique holiday presents for those you love.

Chungking

Chungking Express is one of my favorite movies. I still remember when Stu and I first watched it, our freshman year of college. I love the way Wong Kar-Wai tells a story and the unique characters of the film. (He also did - In the Mood for Love and My Blueberry Nights) And visually it is so beautiful - dreamlike. If you haven't seen it already, definitely rent it.

Oats.

Otis is four months. We are passed the hard newborn phase and onto where he is reacting, laughing and babbling to us. Yay! This photo is one we took together on photobooth.

Some things about this little man:
-he has stinky farts
-current nicknames are oats, little otsu, latin lover
-he instantly falls asleep with stu
-he always wants to be on his feet standing and doesn't like to bend his legs
-the drooling has began
-he loves to stare at his sister holly
-when you hold his hands he likes to practice walking... seriously.

Charley.

A few years ago we bought this book, The Animal Kingdom at a used book sale for our daughter. Back then we weren't familiar with Charley Harper but began to see his work everywhere. We were excited when we realized we had found a gem of a book and quickly rescued it off our daughter's bookshelf (since on occasion she likes to write her name in books and color in them). I'm seeing his work more and more especially after this lovely book by Todd Oldham came out. Even Old Navy started carrying a Charley Harper line, where I found this really sweet Animal Puzzle and Matching Game!

shortest to tallest

We just got in the shop these amazing early learning wood puzzles for kids. Simple, colorful and beautiful they teach children the concept of shortest to tallest and narrow to widest. Our daughter Holly really likes playing with them. A really great gift idea, check them out here.

Lost River Modern

Last week our trip to the mountains led us to this wonderful modern prefab cabin in the woods called Lost River Modern. It was beautiful, the surroundings and especially the house. It was fun to pretend while we were there that this was our modern oasis. We highly recommend it if you are needing a little escape. See more photos of Lost River Modern and book your next trip here.

To the mountains.

We decided to enjoy the last of fall leaves and head off to the mountains. More about our adventures later. But for now a photo I took on our drive up, an old school Airstream. Stu and I are thinking this might be just what we need when we go on our antique trips. A dream.
