A song for you.

I don't really like video games and am afraid if we have a system in the house, Stu might play it non-stop. Instead he is into playing his ukulele, which holly is starting to play now too. She has one her size and they sing songs together. It's very sweet. She makes up songs to sing a long with it.

Ornaments!
I joined this Holiday Ornament Swap, and I received the info about the nine recipients I will be exchanging ornaments with. I'm super excited and already have a neat idea of ornaments to make them. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had time to sew, so I am looking forward to making again for this fun swap.
Speaking of ornaments, Stu and I have been collecting these vintage wood ornaments for the shop. Here's a sneek peak of what we will adding for the holidays, probably the week after thanksgiving.
Most are from the 70's, but some earlier than that. They'll be sold in limited sets, so look for them soon!

5 Boroughs

It's a bit crazy, but we keep an empty carton of this NY-based ice cream called "5 Boroughs" (which we used to eat religiously when we lived in the city) on our desk windowsill and look at it everyday and think...how can we get this here? Well, we just checked their site and had to share the good news that you can now order it online, pints or a three gallon tub. "Janet! Take the fish fingers out of the freezer, time to make room." It's the best damn ice cream in the world! Hands-down. Soho is definitely our favorite flavor, but the NYPB sounds good too (but this came out after we moved). And the packaging is perfect.

Transoceanic

We also stopped by a pie shop (the big apple on the road caught our eye) and picked up apple dumplings. Delicious.

classroom scientific

Our friends Allisyn and Jason took a trip to Copenhagen last year. In their amazing adventures there they brought back so many inspiring photos to share. My favorite was of this science classroom. At that time Stu and I were dreaming and concepting about starting a business. We loved the feeling of this room and it became part of our inspiration board for our shop. It's something we thought of when we set up the new image that is up on our homepage.

new collection

"they're more like sacks". that's what janet said when i asked her how to describe my new collection. i'm not crazy about calling it "my sack collection", but either way it's off to a stellar start. first up is a rice sack that you can buy pretty easily at any import food market. this one came from a small India-n grocery shop that also doubled as a Bollywood video rental store. the dancing on the video that was on in the shop entranced us and i think we ended up buying way too many samosas. So what's so great about this sack? numbers (collegiate type nonetheless), elephants, blue/red combo on burlap, hand-stitched red seams + sewn-in handles and zipper (zipper is red). ok, so we've been eating much more basmati rice than ever before (we're a jasmine rice family), but it's worth it and i might even go back and get the larger size.
next up is a vintage NYC Transit subway booth fare/token collection sack. it's so simple and i really love that it's NYC Transit and how it makes me remember the city and taking the trains. metrocards and credit cards have made these obsolete, which makes them all the better.
oh yes, and lots of new items have just been added to the shop. but no sacks.
